Brand New have earned their first No. 1 album with their new record, Science Fiction. In its first week out, the LP has earned 58,000 album equivalent units, reports Billboard. It earned 55,000 of those units in traditional album sales. Science Fiction is also the first independently distributed album to top the U.S. charts in 2017. It has unseated Kesha’s Rainbow, her second record that debuted at No. 1. Brand New’s last album was 2009’s Daisy, which peaked at No. 6. On August 17, Brand New surprise released their new album via their Procrastinate! Music Traitors label shortly after opening up pre-orders for their fifth studio record. Several days later, the LP was available to stream online.
