To mark the 10-year anniversary of their breakout hit “Young Folks,” Peter Bjorn and John discussed the song on “Song Exploder”—the podcast where Hrishikesh Hirway asks artists to dissect an individual track. While discussing the song’s themes and individual elements, they revealed that Daft Punk’s “Robot Rock” was one of the primary influences on the opening moments of “Young Folks.” “We wanted to do that [song’s opening drum fill] in a nerdy, uncool way,” they said.
