You might remember Kina Grannis' cover of Sia's "Chandelier," because it took over the Internet. Viewed over 700,000 times, the LA musician's eerie, stripped-down version turned the power-ballad into something else entirely.
Now, Grannis has a new album out. The Living Room Sessions, Vol. 2 features her cover of Paul Simon's classic song "Graceland." Watch the video and hear the super lovely song below, exclusively at ELLE.com
Grannis recorded the song with her husband, singer-songwriter Jesse Epstein — a.k.a. Imaginary Future — who also appears in the video. She has him to thank for introducing her to the song some years ago, when they were discussing lyrics: "The lines he shared with me were, 'Losing love is like a window in your heart / Everybody sees you're blown apart / Everybody sees the wind blow.' Those words felt so real and raw and poetic to me and I've loved the song ever since."
Of the cover songs she's recorded to such acclaim, Grannis says, "Covering songs is both a way I can honor and pay homage to songs that I love, as well as challenge myself as an artist — to really absorb a song completely until it feels as though I could sing it as if it's my own. Over the years of making and sharing music, covering other artists' songs unexpectedly became a significant piece of my journey."
